Coconut Chutney Recipe: A Perfect South Indian Side Dish
Coconut chutney is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that pairs perfectly with South Indian delicacies like dosa, idli, and vada. Made from fresh coconut, this chutney is packed with flavor and is a must-try for anyone who enjoys traditional Indian cuisine.
Ingredients:
1 cup grated fresh coconut
2 tablespoons roasted chana dal (split chickpeas)
1 green chili (adjust to taste)
1/2 inch ginger piece
Salt to taste
Water as needed
For tempering: 1 teaspoon oil, 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1 dry red chili, 5-6 curry leaves
Instructions:
1. combine grated coconut, roasted chana dal, green chili, and ginger in a blender. Add a little water and blend into a smooth paste. Adjust the water to get your desired consistency.
2. Add salt to taste and mix well.
3. For the tempering, heat oil in a small pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add dry red chili, curry leaves, and sauté for a few seconds.
4. Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix well. Serve fresh with your favorite South Indian dishes.
